To serve as advocates and ambassadors of American University Washington College of Law.
Conduct yourself in a professional manner as a representative of the American University Washington College of Law.
Abide by the university’s Inclusive Excellence Plan.
Actively participate in volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Allow American University to share your name and contact information with other alumni interested in joining your alumni community.
Collecting names and other contact information of fellow alumni at events and sharing this information with the WCL Office of Development & Alumni Relations to keep the alumni database current.
Communicates with the WCL Office of Development & Alumni Relations actively to provide updates regarding your alumni community activities.
Supporting the university philanthropic efforts.
I have agreed to serve as a Volunteer for American University Washington College of Law Office of Development & Alumni Relations (“University”).
As a Volunteer, I agree:
To abide by all applicable policies and rules of the University. These policies include by way of illustration and not limitation, rules on sexual harassment, nondiscrimination, drug and alcohol abuse, and a smoke-free campus. These policies are available at www.american.edu or upon request.
That I will not receive any wage, salary, benefits, or other compensation for my volunteer services. Further, I understand that I will not be considered under this Agreement or otherwise, as having employee status or be extended coverage under unemployment and Workers’ Compensation insurance, or be entitled to participate in any plans, arrangements or distributions by the University pertaining to or in connection with any pension, bonus or similar benefit plans.
That I or the University may terminate this Agreement at any time without prior notice.
That I may not act for, represent, or bind the University in any manner.
To defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the University from any and all loss or damage to persons or property which the University, its employees, its students, or other parties may suffer on account of any accident or occurrence caused by my negligence or misconduct.
In performing my volunteer duties, I understand that I may see and/or gain access to confidential or sensitive information and documents related to students, alumni, staff, and faculty of the University and information related to Development and Alumni Relations operations (“Confidential Information”). Confidential Information may be in paper or electronic format and in possession, custody, and control of employees who work at the University. I understand that the disclosure of confidential information may cause irreparable harm to the University.
As a condition of my volunteering, I agree that:
I will not copy for my own use any document that I am given, shown, or have access to, except to the extent that I am given express permission to do so by representatives of the WCL Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
I will not examine or retrieve any document or file except those that I am authorized to handle.
I will not discuss with anyone, unless authorized by representatives of the WCL Office of Development and Alumni Relations, any fact, matter, document, or file the substance or the existence of which I would not have known except for the duties I perform with Development and Alumni Relations.
If I am uncertain whether a particular fact, matter, document, or file is covered by the confidentiality strictures of this Agreement, I will resolve all uncertainties in favor of preserving the confidentiality of that item, and I will seek clarification from representatives of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations before engaging in any conduct that may jeopardize the confidentiality of that item.
I understand that any violation of the terms in this Agreement may subject me to immediate removal as a volunteer of the University, and may also cause Development and Alumni Relations to refer such violations to appropriate university personnel or law enforcement authorities for appropriate adjudication or prosecution.
I understand that these Confidentiality provisions will survive the termination of this Agreement.
By signing this Agreement, I certify that I have read this Agreement; that I understand the terms and conditions therein; and that I agree to abide by them.
