Within teams, you have the ability to manage students for the purposes of controlling the conversation and focus of the active meeting.
The best way to do this is by making students “Attendees” of a meeting.
An “attendee” is unable to mute the meeting host, but the host is also able to mute the attendee.
Making Students “Attendees”
There is a new feature in teams that allows you to set everyone in the meeting except yourself to the role of "attendee" in one go. This will need to be done every time you start a meeting.
To do so, select "Participants" on your meetings toolbar. A tab will appear on the right with a list of those who are currently in the meeting.
Select the tick and cross icon next to "People". This will open a new tab in a web browser.
In the setting "Who can present?", select "Only me" and then "Save".
This setting will set anyone in the meeting other than yourself to "attendee" as well as set anyone who joins the meeting after changing this setting to "attendee".
Making Students "Attendees" individually
In your active meeting. You will see a list of participants within the panel on the right-hand-side of the screen.
Right click the students (one at a time) and select the button to “Make an attendee”. This will set you as the presenter of the meeting. To reintegrate them as contributors the meeting, right click the students and select “Make a presenter”.
Muting Students and Disabling their Microphones/Cameras
Muting students is similar to the process above, right click on the student name and select Mute Participant. If you need to remove a student from the meeting you can do so in this menu also.
If you would like to disable a Students microphone or camera, you can do so from this menu also. This will prevent the Students from using their microphone and/or camera even if they have enabled it on their end. You will need to enable their microphone/camera again before they are able to use them.
