Home > Staff > School Software > Edumate - Staff > Outcomes Setup
Outcomes that are created in Edumate will persist from year to year. Therefore, when it comes to creating outcomes, you only need to do so if new outcomes have been introduced or existing ones have been changed.
A course is essentially a list of students participating in a subject for a given year. Courses in Edumate change from year to year. Therefore, outcomes need to be linked to courses each year so that reports can be created using these outcomes.
Head Teachers/stage coordinators are to complete the following steps for each subject that requires outcomes. In high school this is generally only life skills courses, most subjects in primary school require outcomes. Once this has been done, teachers are able to complete the report.
1. From the main Edumate menu, select: Setup > Academic Hierarchy > Subjects / Syllabi.
2. Select the appropriate subject from the list presented to you by clicking on the subject name.
3. From the Subject screen, click on the Criteria tab.
4. The Criteria screen will display any outcomes already entered for this subject. Outcomes may be grouped by Strand. These outcomes and strands may appear in this screen in collapsed or expanded form as seen below.
Expand lists
------>
5. Outcomes should be grouped according to their unit of work. We use Strands in Edumate to represent a unit of work. To create a strand, click on the New Strand button.
6. The new strand window will appear. Here you will need to enter a strand name and a strand code. The strand name should be the name of your unit of work. The stand code must be a unique code for that subject. Using sequential codes such as LS-MA1, LS-MA2 etc is fine. When the reports are printed, the strands will be sorted according to their code. You can use this field to control sort order. Once you have entered the name and code, click the save button.
7. The strand will now appear in your list and you can now enter outcomes associated with it. To enter an outcome, click the Outcome button next to the strand name the outcome is associated with.
8. In the popup window that appears, enter
The outcome description as per the syllabus.
The Screen Name and Outcome Code can both be the Outcome Code. Eg LS2.1, LS3.1. This code must also be unique with the subject.
Also ensure that Has Identical Indicator is ticked. You can leave Status and Weighting blank.
Click the Ok button to complete the process.
Repeat entering outcomes that are attempted in the unit.
NOTE: When copying and pasting outcomes from another document, make sure that you have not included any extra spaces or extra lines in the outcome.
9. This outcome should now appear in your list under the appropriate strand, along with an identical indicator as seen in the screenshot below.
10. Click the Save button to save all the changes you have made.
11. To make these outcomes available to staff for entering results against, they need to be flagged for use in the appropriate semester. From the main menu, select Setup > Academic Hierarchy > School > School Courses.
12. Select the appropriate course from the list presented to you by clicking on the course name.
13. On the screen, click on the Assign Criterion tab.
14. On the assign criterion screen, you can flag which outcomes need to be available for semester 1 & 2. To flag an outcome, tick the box in the column for the semester you wish to make it available for. Yearly Life Skills reports require Semester 1 and Semester 2 to be ticket.
15. Click the save button to save any changes you have made. Outcomes are now ready for use.
