At William Carey, well-being underpins success at school and is essential for academic success. We acknowledge that social/emotional skills need to be taught systematically, like reading and mathematics. All of our Primary students engage in the Second Step curriculum which explicitly teaches skills such as empathy, emotional regulation, skills for learning and social problem-solving.
In Primary, we have a designated space, external to the classroom, to facilitate co-regulation. This space is called TLC (The Learning Centre).
We have identified 5 attributes that contribute to a flourishing learning community. An award system is in place to acknowledge those who demonstrate our William Carey Attributes. These are: Be a learner, be a team member, be respectful, be wise & brave, and be a leader & helper.
All of our staff in Primary seek to love and know their students. Please communicate any well-being matters to your child’s classroom teacher so that they can partner with you.
