“We are going to make sure it’s the best performance and it’s gonna be a hell of a lot of fun.” - John Fosbenner, cast as Mr. Pendanski.
This fall, East Theater Company is performing a production of Holes, an entertaining and hilarious take on the classic children’s novel, written by Louis Sachar. Directed by Mr. Swigget and senior Molly Heumann, this show combines a talented cast, creative set, and strong dedication to make a one-of-a-kind performance.
This show features one of the largest casts at East in recent years. The community amongst the actors really shines through on stage, making the characters and their relationships feel genuine. Multiple different actors have noted how the family within East’s theater company makes each show feel like something really special. Samantha Carrol, cast as Madame Zeroni, said, “When you see the guys interacting, you can really sense the camaraderie, and we have such a tight-knit theater company that everyone’s really there to support each other.” One of the best examples of this can be seen watching the main gang of boys perform. This talented group of actors, including Andrew Brizick as Stanley Yelnats, bring both comedy and seriousness into their scenes with remarkable chemistry. The relationships demonstrated by the characters are accurately represented both on and off stage thanks to the community already present within East Theater Company.
Holes features a variety of characters and themes that makes this show great for all ages. There are deep messages about friendship and compassion but also funny accents and witty jokes. It is a comedic story with elements that will appeal to all ages, especially those who remember reading the book in elementary school. Anyone who loved the movie adaptation of the book will also enjoy seeing it come to life on stage by their very own classmates. Many of the actors remarked on just how enjoyable and unique this production is. When asked why she thought people should come see the show, Julia Kehoe, cast as The Warden, said, “I think it’s really entertaining. It's not like anything we’ve done here, especially with the set and how things are being run.” Everyone in the cast can agree that this is a performance you would not want to miss. The talent demonstrated on stage is unmatched. You are sure to laugh, have a good time, and leave astonished by the skills we have here at East.
You’ll want to see for yourself all the hard work everyone, both on stage and behind the scenes, has put into this production. Shows are at 7 o'clock in the East Auditorium on Thursday, November 14th, Friday the 15th, and Saturday the 16th. There will also be a 1 o’clock matinee show on the 16th. You can get your tickets at the door for 10 dollars per person; I’d recommend coming Friday for the Student Night discount ($8 dollars instead of 10) with a student ID. Come see your friends, support the East Theatre Company, and watch a fantastic show!
