The controversy over ICE has been the topic of the decade. Whether or not what ICE is doing is for the better or for the worse. Recent studies have shown ICE has been involved with over 36 cases, which, according to reporters, is the most in decades. As a result, controversy has arisen about what ICE’s concerns really are: are they for the people, or against? How has ICE changed the idea of American society?
ICE stands for “Immigration and Customs Enforcement”, basically assimilating illegal criminals who don't belong. This was enforced after the 2002 Homeland Security Act. This Homeland Security Act was arranged by Republican George W Bush to prevent terrorist attacks after the 9/11 attacks that took thousands of American lives. However, reporters claim that over the course of the 2010s, President Donald Trump has skewed the definition of this. ICE was used as a protection against terrorism attacks, now ICE receives almost 27 billion dollars in comparison to 8.7 billion which is triple last year's, and according to sources is making more money than our military enforcement. Why is ICE getting paid so much, you might ask? Well, sources reveal they are getting paid to go through with Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda. This agenda consists of deporting undocumented immigrants. So according to the New York Times, Tom Hollan, an average reporter for the New York Times, states, “You’re going to see immigration .enforcement on a level you’ve never seen it before”. Tom Hollan emphasized the increase of ICE forces over the course of the year. Hollan also alludes that ICE will only become worse, and how the way ICE enforcement operates is going to change. This displays how ICE is expanding, not in the sense of forces, but rather where they are going.
ICE has been spotted in numerous locations across the country. For example, ICE has been spotted in Pittsburgh, Chester, and Philadelphia. As a result, people keep continuous tracks on ICE. Some even launch websites and Facebook groups where people can report, and search for ICE utilizing a person's current cardinal coordinates.ICE has even been spotted in bigger events across the country. Allegedly, ICE was spotted in June of 2025 trying to get into Dodgers Stadium. The Dodgers Organization denied ICE access into their stadium going beyond Donald Trump's request. This sprung up controversy amongst ICE’s capabilities. In continuation, the government has conducted expansion to big time events. For example, the Super Bowl; sourc.es have heavily been implying that ICE will be guarding the Super Bowl. However, NFL’s lead security officer states “"There are no known no planned ICE or immigration enforcement operations that are scheduled around the Super Bowl or any of the Super Bowl-related events". NFL security officer released this statement in order to deny any sense of ICE at the Super Bowl. This year’s performer at the Super Bowl Bad Bunny; a latino artist had something to say about ICE during the Grammys “Before I say thanks to God, I'm going to say ICE out, We're not savage, we're not animals, we're not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”. He identifies that immigrants deserve the opportunities Americans obtain, and should not fear their lives everywhere they go; especially live events such as the Super Bowl. He does this well by directly addressing ICE, and explaining the emotions immigrants are, and have. As Americans these people have rights, and feelings as well.
So recuperating recent events, it is all about perspective. Is ICE dangerous to American society, and to what extent is this harming American society? At what point may the government intervene and deem this unconstitutional?
