Technology is intervention by design to expand human possibilities.
Through technology education, you have the opportunity to develop a broad technological literacy and to experience and explore a wide range of technologies in a variety of contexts that will enable you to participate as informed participants in an ever-changing world.
Technology offers project based learning which is focused on the design process and problem solving. You will develop your skills in critical thinking and evaluation whilst solving real world problems.
You will also develop a range of practical skills covering a range of Technological disciplines. These include:
Adobe Illustrator
2D & 3D drawing techniques
Workshop skills focused primarily on woodwork
Micro:bit electronics with drag & drop and coding.
CAD and physical modelling techniques
You will work through a range of projects covering a variety of contexts.
Topics Covered:
Personal Logo - Development & creation of a logo that represents you, your interests and heritage.
Taonga - Designing a personal treasure using a variety of mediums and materials.
Passive Speaker - Materials project, focused on wood working skills and techniques.
Micro:bit Electronics - Creating circuits and programming them to make a desk game
No previous experience in Technology is required, however you are invited to bring your expertise and passions into the subject through your projects.
Portfolio work is documented in google classroom so you will need to bring your device to each lesson. If you want to take full advantage of your Adobe Creative Cloud license a Windows or Mac laptop is recommended, however we do have school computers for those students with Chromebooks.
Please come prepared to lessons with stationary such as pencils and pens.
Assessment
Students will create a portfolio of work which will be used to assess against the curriculum. Learning and assessment take place alongside each other in Technology, with due dates communicated at the start of each project.
. This course is assessed using our WC Learning Progression Framework and provides an excellent foundation for students to continue to Year 10.
