This course offers you both theoretical and practical aspects of Physical Education. It focuses on the application of Physical Education theory and aims to develop critical thought through the exploration of issues that influence ourselves, our community, and society as a whole. It is an excellent starting point if you're intending on entering tertiary education in the areas of Physical Education, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Teaching, Coaching, Recreation, Exercise Consultancy/Prescription and if you have an interest in developing a deeper understanding about yourself.
The Level 3 Physical Education course will challenge you both mentally and physically. There is a significant written component that require you to apply critical thought in a variety of contexts. In addition, you will be expected to push yourself physically in preparation for the practical achievement standard. Level 3 Physical Education is a challenging and rewarding course that will leave you with a heightened sense of well-being and a greater appreciation of your place in society.
Applicants to New Zealand universities require credits in approved subjects. This Level 3 Physical Education course is a university approved subject.
Studying Physical Education at Year 13 will provide you with opportunities to engage in a wide range of theoretical and practical sporting contexts, allowing you to explore not only your participation in sport and physical activity, but also that of others. The course is designed to give you varied experiences that enable you to think critically about, challenge assumptions, consider multiple perspectives, and use a range of sporting contexts to aid critical examination.
You will undertake five internal assessments throughout the year. There are no External Standards.

You will analyse your own or others performance in a chosen activity
You will plan and evaluate a skill learning programme to improve performance
Measuring your performance in a Aquathlon event against a national standard

Critically discuss contemporary leadership principles applied in physical activity contexts
Through both practical and theoretical components, you will learn how to think critically, analyse performance, devise strategies and demonstrate quality movement. Assessment is via a combination of written, oral presentation and practical demonstration.

This course is open to all level 3 students, and will continue to build on level 1 and 2 course related concepts.
You should have an interest in physical activity and movement, discussing personal experiences, and challenging assumptions through critical reflections. It is an excellent starting point if you are intending to enter in tertiary education in the areas of Physical Education, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Teaching, Coaching, Recreation, Exercise Consultancy/Prescription, a professional sporting career and if you have an interest in developing a deeper understanding about yourself.
For practical sessions you are required to bring appropriate mufti physical activity clothing and sport shoes. A personal learning device is recommended during theory lessons.
You should:
have a keen interest in debating, challenging assumptions and looking at topics from a variety of perspectives
have an interest in sourcing, engaging and analysing a range of literature and media texts
be motivated to develop your critical thinking and extended abstract thinking skills
have a desire to improve your academic writing
be motivated to participate in small group and class discussions, debate and challenge and justifying your views
be interested in learning how to engage with on-line resources that will support your learning
come into this course with a desire to fill gaps in your understanding of related knowledge concepts, literacy and critical thinking skills if you have not studied Physical Education at level 1 and 2.
You will undertake five internal assessments throughout the year. There are no External Standards.
You will negotiate the way you're assessed with your teacher from the selected standards that this course offers.
While there is flexibility in the mode of assessment, generally three internal assessments are completed as a written report, one as an oral presentation and one based upon practical demonstration in an applied setting.
