Kaua e rangiruatia te hāpai o te hoe; e kore tō tātou waka e ū ki uta.
Technology is intervention by design. It uses intellectual and practical resources to create technological outcomes, which expand human possibilities by addressing needs and realising opportunities. Effective and ethical design respects the unique relationship that New Zealanders have with their physical environment and embraces the significance of Māori culture and world views in its practice and innovation. - New Zealand Curriculum

If you are interested in video games, programming and media creation then Digital Technology Game Development (DTG) would suit you.
You will learn about programming using a Python type programming language.
You will also learn about creating video game assets using 3D modelling, 2D graphics, as well as animating these assets.
13DTG could lead you down the media creation/design path after school or down a programming pathway.
In Year 13 Digital Technology (Game Development) you will learn about designing and creating: video games, and game assets.
To create video games you will learn about programming for GoDot game engine using a Python type programming language. You will also learn about computational thinking - how to create gameplay and functionality for your game.
To create the game assets you will learn about 3D modelling and animation.
The course content, based on four achievement standards involves:
Designing a video game and its game assets.
Using an iterative process to develop a digital outcome
Managing your projects and process to ensure that you deliver your project.
Reflecting on the process of designing and creating your project.
In this course you will develop your skills to a high standard, and manage a large project independently.
Recommended prior learning includes having taken Digital Technology at Year 12. Having experienced success in 12DTG will be a solid foundation for success in this course.
If you are unsure of choosing 13DTG due to prior learning, the HOD will meet with you to discuss your plans and ensure this pathway meets your needs.
In 13DTG you will be assessed by completing 1 major project. The projects will cover animation and 3D modelling game assets as well as designing and making a video game using the GoDot Game Engine.
The external is a critical reflection of a project you have made during the year.
The external assessment is a Common Assessment Task (in-school digital examination).
