It is the mission of the Academy of Sport to identify and support you to reach your potential as an outstanding sportsman and young man.
The Year 13 Academy of Sport is timetabled during the study line. This will help ensure time is not wasted during this period as it will be spent training and learning. However, during pressure times throughout the year, the sessions can be used to study for assessments or exams.
This Senior Academy course caters for aspiring athletes, who are motivated and passionate about their chosen sport(s). This course is based in the training facility in the Frank Crist Centre (FCC). Here you have direct access to first class training resources. This is a predominantly student directed course, where the you may work closely with the schools Strength and Conditioning Coach, to develop individualised conditioning programmes. Your progress towards your individual fitness goals is monitored along with your wellness by the classroom teacher and/or the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
This course is a part of the development pathway for aspiring young sportsmen. You will develop your ability to self-manage and therefore set yourself up for future success in your chosen sport.
It is hoped you will have the ability to perform at an elite under 18 level by the time you reach your final year at school. This includes performance on the field, fitness standards and tactical knowledge. As an Academy of Sport member you will be offered a variety of rich learning experiences that will build on your knowledge of training principles and techniques, as well as offering an insight into the world of professional sport.

You will need to be motivated and self-reliant. You do not need to have been a part of the Academy of Sport in previous years. Applications can be found here on the Academy of Sport website.
This course is to be taken as a sixth subject only. There is no academic requirement, although it is possible to be assessed on their performance in achievement standard 91501: Demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting.
