This course offers you the unique opportunity to engage in a mixture of Achievement and Unit Standards related to Physical Education, Health and/or Home Economics. This may include, but is not limited to, Exercise Prescription, Outdoor Education, Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition and/or Sports Coaching.
These experiences will provide you with learning opportunities that will help build character, wellbeing and give insight into future employment opportunities related to the Health and Physical Education learning area.
This course offers both theoretical and practical aspects of Exercise Prescription (Personal Training), Outdoor Education, Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition and/or Sports Coaching. The focus will be on learning through experience.
The Exercise Prescription (Personal Training) component of the course will focus on developing the human body through the application of training techniques, stretching and rehabilitation principles. This course will be based in the Frank Crist Training Centre and will give you the opportunity to develop personal training knowledge in a simulated professional fitness environment.
Sport coaching sessions will require you to plan, implementing and analyse the effectiveness of sessions with a focus on delivery and building important interpersonal skill qualities.
Sport Performance components of the course will provide you an opportunity to participate in a range of physical movements with a focus on analysing movement, and making improvements to fundamental skills and game awareness.
Performance Physical Education will provide you an opportunity to:
demonstrate personal and social development in a range of activities
demonstrate knowledge and technique in a fitness institution
perform a physical activity in an applied setting.
At the completion of this course you should be able to:
participate competently in an ABL programme, examine personal participation and apply safe practises.
relate human anatomy and movement to gym equipment and static stretching.
demonstrate correct technique when using gym equipment.
demonstrate, instruct, and monitor safe and correct use of cardiovascular exercise equipment
demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of sailing
perform a physical activity in an applied setting
There are no specific prerequisites for entry to the course and it is open to all Year 12 and Year 13 students.
All assessments will be internal, and we will aim for somewhere between 15 and 20 credits available. A range of Achievement Standards and Unit Standards are available to select from.
