Kaua e rangiruatia te hāpai o te hoe; e kore tō tātou waka e ū ki uta.
Technology is intervention by design. It uses intellectual and practical resources to create technological outcomes, which expand human possibilities by addressing needs and realising opportunities. Effective and ethical design respects the unique relationship that New Zealanders have with their physical environment and embraces the significance of Māori culture and world views in its practice and innovation. - New Zealand Curriculum

In Digital Tech Science you will develop algorithmic thinking skills and an understanding of the computer science principles that underpin all digital technologies. You will become aware of what is and isn’t possible with computing and learn core programming concepts and how to take advantage of the capabilities of computers, so that you can become a creator of digital technologies, not just a users.
The course will provide an excellent background for any student who is looking for a career in a digital are such as programming, engineering, or computer software development.
What Will I Study?
The Year 12 course in Digital Technology Science will focus on the following skills:
Programming – you will learn advanced programming concepts using Python.
Databases - making responsive web applications utilising databases.
Electronics – you will learn advanced electronic concepts by designing, making and programming an electronic outcome
The course content, based on four achievement standards involves:
Creating a video game from the ground up using Python.
Creating a dynamic website using, HTML, CSS, Python and databases.
electronics / robotics with Arduino.
learning about a major area of Computer Science, including a problem faced in that area
Recommended prior learning includes having taken Digital Technology at Year 11. Having experienced success in 11DTE will be a solid foundation for success in this course. If you are unsure of choosing 12DTS due to prior learning, the HOD will meet with you to discuss your plans and ensure this pathway meets your needs.
Students will expand on the knowledge they gained in Year 11 by completing three projects.
Project 1 - Programming a video game.
Project 2 - Creating a database backend for a website.
Project 3 - Creating a electronics project using arduino and a variety of components.
External - Computer Science topic
The external assessment is a Common Assessment Task (in-school digital examination) and will be based around learning a Computer Science topic - the topic changes each year.
