Business Studies at Level 2 will help you to understand the integral role of business in society and the economy, explore enterprise culture, develop qualities such as initiative, resilience, resourcefulness, skills of problem solving, cooperation, decision making, negotiation, and communicating.
The curriculum will further help you to gain knowledge and understanding of good business practice and of a business as a productive activity whilst acquiring greater financial capability. Evidence of an enterprising spirit abounds in New Zealand’s history and is an aspect of our multicultural national identity. Enterprise and business entrepreneurship are essential to New Zealand’s economic future.

How to run a real business. Alongside developing your practical skills and ideas, you will learn to participate as active, informed and responsible citizens, engage critically with societal issues and use a social inquiry approach by asking questions, gathering information and background ideas, examining relevant current community issues, reflecting on your understandings to develop appropriate responses.
As a Business student you will develop transferable skills like critical thinking, being innovative, communicating, collaboration, leadership, resilience and self-management.
You will run your own business with the intention of raising awareness and funds (profit) for a local community charity.
You will coming up with creative ideas for solving community issues, identify experts in the local community who can assist the project, finding creative ways to raise funds for the project, use decision making tools to make informed decisions, work effectively with peers, parents and community members, creating and managing budgets. This means reading, discussing, researching, representing groups, problem-solving and carrying out a business activity.
You will also learn how large scale corporate business work in a real work environment and how they solve problems.
In this course, you will need to be highly organized, enjoy writing and working in a group setting.
You should enjoy researching and drawing conclusions to come up with a strategic business plan, be willing to participate actively in a collaborative working environment by seeking help when unsure, managing challenges and effectively communicating at all times. You will need to enjoy critical thinking, reading, writing, role playing, problem solving and sharing ideas. You will need to be willing to take risks and appreciate failure as a crucial element of success. You will also be willing to accept that you may not emerge from the course with clear answers. This course is recommended for those who have the ability to follow through to complete a project.
You will sit four achievement standards as follows:
2.1 (External) - Demonstrate understanding of the internal operations of a large business
2.3 (External) - Apply business knowledge to a critical problem(s) in a given large business context
2.4 (Internal) - Conduct market research for a new or existing product
2.6 (Internal)- Carry out, review and refine a business activity within a community context with guidance
