Year 12 Accounting is a prerequisite for Year 13 Accounting. There are many tertiary institutions providing accounting, finance, marketing and economics courses. This course will provide a useful platform for further studies.
The course follows on from the Year 11 course. It involves a more in-depth understanding of the accounting processes, reports, and analysis of sole proprietor businesses which operate accounting subsystems.
Course Content
The course content, based on the five achievement standards covers the following areas:
the conceptual basis of accounting
processing of financial transactions using accounting software
preparation and understanding of financial statements
analysis, interpretation and the making of recommendations
inventory subsystem
On the satisfactory completion of this course, you will have the skills necessary to:
record financial transactions
prepare financial statements (both manually and using computer software)
analyse and interpret results and make recommendations
have an understanding of an accounting subsystem.
To gain entry to this course, students who are new to accounting may need to complete an introductory task over the summer holidays, to gain the basic skills and knowledge to ensure a smooth transition into accounting. Students doing level one accounting may need to achieve 14 credits at Level 1 in Accounting. Other students may gain entry at the discretion of the HOD – consultation is required.
