This Senior Academy course caters for aspiring athletes, who are motivated and passionate about their chosen sport(s). The course is based in the training facility in the Frank Crist Centre (FCC). Here, you have direct access to first class training resources and may work closely with the Strength and Conditioning Coach, who designs your programme. You, along with the classroom teacher monitor your own wellness.
This course is a part of the development pathway for aspiring young sportsmen. You will develop your ability to self-manage and therefore set yourself up for future success in your chosen sport.

It is hoped students will have the ability to perform at an elite under 18 level by the time they reach their final year at school. This includes performance on the field, fitness standards and tactical knowledge. You will be offered a variety of rich learning experiences that will build on your knowledge of training principles and techniques, as well as offering an insight into the world of professional sport.
You will be able to:
develop key training methods and techniques
develop knowledge of programme development for youth athletes
analyse the nutritional needs of young athletes
evaluate effective leadership in coaching
develop self-management through understanding social responsibility in high performance groups.
If you gain entry into the senior academy (Tier 1) you will be given guidance in the following areas:

programme development for Youth Athletes
nutritional needs of young Athletes
effective leadership in coaching.
self-management through understanding social responsibility in high-performance groups.
This is a very practical course. You must bring appropriate clothing for physical activities. It is expected students will have a full change of kit (including running shoes) for all practical sessions.
Being in a competitive team is essential as coach feedback may be required. Talk to Mr Tinkle or Mr Moon if you are not sure.
If you wish to apply for the Academy you will need to be motivated and self-reliant. You do not need to have been a part of the Academy of Sport in previous years.

Over the course students will be assessed both practically and theoretically over four achievement standards for a total of 16 credits at Level 2.
