Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live - New Zealand Curriculum
You will be invited into the Year 11 Mathematics course that we think you will have the most chance of success in for NCEA Level 1. The vast majority of Year 11 students will complete the Mathematics External course but, at the end of Year 10, emails will be sent to those that might benefit from being in our Mathematics Internal course. Mathematics Internal (11MAI) is still NCEA Level 1 Mathematics but all assessment is done internally. What does this mean? It means that there are no exams, so students don't have to retain information for the November NCEA examinations. It also means that we can use a variety of flexible, real life assessment conditions and allow resubmissions where minor omissions have been made - something that cannot be done for exams.
