Year 11 Integrated Studied is important because it:

Is designed to give you confidence that you can be an active learner in all courses
Supports students to develop Literacy
Supports students to enjoy success in all subjects at WC by working with Learning Areas to target the specific skills that are required at a given time in the academic year
The focus of 11INT is developing the skills you need to have success in your other Learning Areas, this might mean working on reading, writing, or speaking.
We hope that by focusing on developing awareness of when to apply specific strategies students will become able to apply strategies in other subjects. We hope that this will improve their ability to manage themselves.
In Year 11 Integrated Studies, your teacher will provide a range of learning opportunities which are designed to support in your success in your assignments and classwork for your other subjects.
Your teacher will consult with your teachers in English and the Social Sciences, as well as other Learning Areas, to ensure that you have the best support possible in reaching your goals.
You will also spend time completing activities to build your literacy skills, which will in turn support in building confidence to engage in learning across all subject areas.
Students who get the most out of this course are open and honest learners who accept the support available to develop their essential literacy skills. You’ll need to bring a great attitude to class which means that you are a willing learner, able to work with others and to support others as you persevere through school challenges.
Successful students in Integrated Studies will build on their existing literacy skills by being:
Willing to listen and engage openly in the ideas of others in a range of forums.
Able to receive and provide feedback to their peers.
Resilient and able to persist when dealing with challenges.
Students who would benefit from additional time and support in their learning will be offered 11INT as an option subject. You will be offered the opportunity to be in the course based on entry results, teacher observations and through conversations with whānau .
All learning in Integrated Studies is to support the wider progress and success of the individual. Teachers will use formative assessment throughout the year to know best how to support your progress and learning needs, in order to ensure you are achieving to the best of your ability in your other Learning Areas.
