English is the study, use, and enjoyment of the English language and its literature, communicated orally, visually, and in writing, for a range of purposes and audiences and in a variety of text forms. Learning English encompasses learning the language, learning through the language, and learning about the language. - New Zealand Curriculum
There are three courses available in Year 11 English to cater for different learning interests.
PLEASE NOTE that entry into your preferred course is not guaranteed - course placement is at the discretion of the HOD, in consultation with students, teachers and whānau.

All Year 11 English courses offer a pathway to studying English in Year 12.
The General Course (11ENG) offers a range of experiences as you explore how writers and directors creatively use the conventions of their chosen medium to make us consider a range of relevant ideas. This is in addition to creating our own stories.
English through a Media Lens (11ENM)

This is an introductory course covering the role journalism plays in society. You will explore key concepts relating to media journalism and examine the relationship between media, democracy and social activism.
English Writing (11ENW) is a course is for students who love writing and want to do lots of it. The course will take you on a journey across time and media, sampling and practising writing for many different purposes and audiences, from poetry and creative prose, to scriptwriting, to journalistic magazine or editorial writing, and everything in between.
