How to choose

CURRICULUM SELECTION FAQS

How do I choose my courses?

We would encourage you to think about your abilities, strengths and interests. Write down the subjects you enjoy and achieve well in. List any possible learning or career pathways. Talk to your teachers and ask them what they would recommend. Take time to discuss this with your whānau, Tutor teacher and other support people such as the Careers Department.

Where can I find information about the courses?

All the information about the courses available to you are on this site. We would also recommend that you attend the course selection 'speed meets' where you can ask senior students about different courses.

What else do I need to know?

We would encourage you to research early any information about any requirements for careers. Many careers require you to have studied particular subjects, e.g. Physics and Mathematics for engineering. You can make an appointment with the Careers Advisor (Mr Davidson) to help you with this.

Suggested course selection reflective questions:

  • Do the subjects you have chosen reflect your interests, aspirations and strengths?

  • Do the subjects you have chosen allow you to continue with possible subject choices in subsequent years?

  • Do the subjects you have chosen keep career pathways open to you?

  • Do the subjects you have chosen enable you to gain entry to further study or the pathways you want to explore?
