Ask an Expert for help with your Science / Engineering project
Questions?
Use the ‘Ask an Expert forum to ask questions about your science topic, designing an experiment, or testing a solution for your engineering project. This forum will provide you with guidance and suggestions to strengthen your NVSEF project.
In the forum below, post your question and usually within 48 hours, you will have a response.
Example of Asking an Expert a question.
Dear Expert,
Hello, we are from ISOI Team #4.
For our science fair project, we are interested in working on different ways to make and test, Eco friendly plastic. We are thinking of making plastic using three methods. So far, we are thinking of creating plastic by milk and vinegar, super glue and borax, and chicken feathers . (The chickens where not plucked nor harmed during this project) .Our question is will these ways to make plastic, help the environment? Please let us know if you think our idea and question is a good science fair topic. We hope you can stay in touch with us and help us through the science fair!
Thank you and Sincerely,
ISOI Team #4
Response from our "Expert."
Have you done research as to how to make plastic from these materials? Is it something that you will be able to do at your school? If you are not able to do this at school, you might want to consider making and testing a different type of common material (like bricks). When you design your project, make sure that you also think about how you will measure the "strength" of the material. What data can you collect and how will you collect it?
Response from ISOI Team # 4
Dear Expert,
We decided to change up our main idea into making strong bricks for the poor, by adding cups of gravel and water into mud. That is how we are going to make the bricks. Anyways, we wanted to find a solution to 1 of the UN Global Goals. The Global Goal we are doing is Sustainable cities and communities ( #11) and we hope this can change peoples lives. To test the strength of our bricks, we will drop them from a distance and see if the bricks break or chip off. We also want to pour some water on them and see if they wear of. Those are the ways we will test the strength of our bricks. Please let us know your opinion on our project!
Regards,
ISOI Team #4

Never give the name of anyone in your team. When communicating with the science and engineering team only use your school abbreviation and team number. For instance, AIS Riyadh Team #32 or WBAIS Team #4.
Do not ask for the science / engineering team to do your work for you. They will advise and help lead you to the answers that you are looking for.
