One of the best parts of being an educator is the chance to build relationships with so many students and their families. I’ve taught fifth grade for six years and this grade has a special place in my heart. I love having the chance to build their confidence and independence before they leave for middle school. I love inspiring them, even when they might think the topic is uninspiring. I love when students come back to visit us and share that even though they love middle or high school, Randall Carter will always have a special place in their hearts. When I worked in the private sector each day was unfulfilling and monotonous. Teaching in an elementary school is never monotonous; each day brings new challenges and successes to share with “our kids”. I will never forget my very first day in a classroom ten years ago when my first thought was, "I'm so lucky this is what I GET to do now." I think back to that day often so that I never forget what I love so much about being an educator-the kids.
I have been fortunate to work at Randall Carter for my entire career, starting as a student teacher here. I have built lifelong friendships, and every day I come to work I get to be with my extended family. Working in Wayne has given me the opportunity to collaborate with the most amazing professionals and I credit each person I work with for making me better every day.
Working as an Occupational Therapist in the Wayne School system is truly a rewarding experience because I work with a wide age range of wonderful children. Through my profession I am able to see the progress of their individualized goals and see growth accomplished within the educational setting. Furthermore, I work with all disciplines including teachers and families assisting and witnessing this growth throughout the elementary years.
As a graduate of Wayne and having the benefit of watching my own two boys go through the Wayne School system I am blessed that I am can contribute back to my community and be a positive contributor to our premier education system with the very best of educators working with me.
