Nurses' Appreciation Week
To all of our hardworking, dedicated, and caring nurses, the Wayne Township Public Schools would like to wish all of you a Happy Nurses Appreciation Week. National Nurses week is scheduled annually from May 6th - May 12th, concluding on Florence Nightingale’s birthday (considered to be the founder of modern nursing). This year more than ever, we appreciate our nurses for the tireless work they do to keep our students and staff safe and healthy. Our community of school nurses form the backbone of our wellness efforts to support our community and have played a critical supporting role even more vitally this year as our country faces a global pandemic which is affecting our communities and way of life.
Our Wayne school nurses work alongside teachers, administrators, and counselors to support our community in many ways, both obvious and unseen. When schools were forced to close this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our school nurses immediately began collaborating on ways to support our students and our families through this challenging time.
Now more than ever, it is the time to say thank you to these dedicated professionals for all they do for our students and our community. The school nursing team is led by Suzanne Koransky who is a caring, supportive leader committed to advocating for the nurses and our families in need.
Thank you to all the School Nurses for all you do, you are appreciated!
Wayne Hills Student Makes Mask Ear Protectors with 3D Printer
Muhammed Hozien, a 12th Grade Wayne Hills CAD IV student recently purchased a 3D printer. He then modeled a mask ear protector for the Wayne First Aid Squad using Fusion 360, a 3D CAD modeling software package that is used with Mr. Lemken's CAD 1-4 program. Muhammed is now in the process of printing and distributing them. Great job Muhammed!
Packanack Students Experience a Virtual Poem in Your Pocket Day
Packanack Elementary School held its first schoolwide virtual event on April 30, 2020 to continue the tradition of celebrating National Poem In Your Pocket (PIYP) Day. Students and staff read 127 poems via video to each other and the rest of the school using Flipgrid.
All students were provided a DIY video by Dr. Mason, Library Media Specialist, on making pockets out of recycled mail envelopes to hold poetry. Participants could read any favorite poem or an original they had created.
Participants from Kindergarteners to our Principal, Mr. Rogalin seemed to have fun waxing poetically if the smiles on their faces are any indication! [Below is a portion of our PIYP Day flipgrid]

Anthony Wayne Middle School Goes on a Virtual Field Trip
This year since we are all home participating in Distance Learning, Mrs. Debbie Mahoney, 8th Grade Advisor and Mr. Dan Fanuele, 8th Grade Counselor, have put together a Virtual Washington, D.C. Class Trip for the 8th Graders at Anthony Wayne Middle School for May 6th, 7th and 8th; the dates of this year's trip.
The daily itinerary will be followed and virtual tours of monuments and other stops on the field trip will be included as they will be pinned to the maps provided.
To help the students feel connected, pictures of chaperones from previous trips have been included. Each morning, students and families will get the day's itinerary sent to them.
While this could never replace actually going on the trip, the staff of AWMS hopes that this helps to honor the trip that was lost this year due to the pandemic.
Many thanks go out to Mr. Fanuele and Mrs. Mahoney for going above and beyond for the AWMS 8th grade class!
You Are Not Alone

Governor's School of New Jersey
The Governor’s School of New Jersey is a tuition-free, summer residential program for high-achieving high school seniors or rising seniors who have an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects.
Currently, there are two programs: the Governor’s School in the Sciences at Drew University and the Governor’s School of Engineering & Technology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The foundation of the Governor’s School program is a commitment to provide an enriched educational opportunity for gifted and talented high school students that will not only be beneficial to them as individuals, but will also benefit the State by preparing students to enter high-demand fields. Students learn a sense of ethical, social and civic responsibility.
High school students are taught by college faculty who promote a sense of community among learners, bringing scholars, faculty and staff together beyond the traditional boundaries of the classroom.
It is a great honor for our students to be chosen for these prestigious, highly selective programs and we are incredibly proud of them!
