Like many school districts, we have struggled with numerous COVID related issues. In Wayne, we have been very fortunate in that we have been able to keep our schools open since the start of the school year with a few setbacks along the way.
Like many school districts, we have struggled with numerous COVID related issues. In Wayne, we have been very fortunate in that we have been able to keep our schools open since the start of the school year with a few setbacks along the way.
At this time, there is a sharp increase with the number of COVID cases in the community and we are seeing the current community spread have an impact in our schools. Due to health and safety concerns, declining student attendance for in-person instruction, and staffing shortages, the Wayne Township Public Schools will conduct classes virtually on December 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. In-person classes will resume on January 19, 2021.

Wayne Hills Student Council Collects Donations for Families in Need.
This fall, Wayne Hills High School had to put their traditional Spirit Week activities on hold. In the meantime, the WVHS Student Council collected donations to provide supermarket gift cards for Wayne Hills High School families in need and for the PTO food pantry. Each class was given a Community Pass account to be used strictly for this Gift Card Food Drive. The individual classes worked to sway as many donations their way so that their class collected the most money, which will be added to the point totals for Spirit Week in the spring. The Wayne Hills Student Council was able to collect over $5,000 which will make the holiday season a little brighter for those in need.

At the December 3, 2020 Board of Education Meeting, the Wayne Board of Education approved the per diem rate of $150 per day for substitute teachers. This rate takes effect on January 19, 2021.

Schuyler Colfax Middle School Gives Back
Schuyler Colfax Middle School families have participated in Toys for Tots for the past 20 years. This year was a true testimony to the dedication of our staff and families since we were all virtual. Partnering with the Wayne Police Department’s Officer Corey Stevens, our staff donated over $600 to purchase new toys as well as hundreds of additional toys given by our SCMS families. A special shout out to Mrs. Engler and Officer Ferray for making all those trips to Schuyler to pick up toys the students dropped off. Thank you to our principal Mrs. Weinstein who has been unbelievably supportive and committed to making this happen.

The faculty also contributed to donations and together we assisted to make a brighter holiday season for 13 families. The families were very grateful for the gifts during such difficult times. Thank you to all who gave and made it a success.

The 6th grade Lynx team students made holidays decorations, cards and other crafts which were dropped off at Bristal Assisted Living in Wayne, NJ. Our students wanted to help bring some smiles to our senior neighbors. One student said “it feels good to do something nice during the holidays”...truly understanding the spirit of Christmas!
