Dear Parents and Guardians of Middle School and High School Students:
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mark Toback, and I are sponsoring our annual “Community Forum”. This anti-drug initiative is specifically designed to provide parents and guardians of middle and high school students with updated information about the most current drug trends including opiates and prescription drug abuse in our community and New Jersey. The Superintendent and I believe that effective communication and education can help Township residents to overcome this most challenging issue. I believe as your Mayor that this is the most important issue facing the young population of our community. For that reason, we strongly encourage you and your middle and high school aged children to attend this very important event.
The year’s “Community Forum” is graciously sponsored by the Wayne Education Association and the Wayne Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse. The forum will be held on Monday, May 17th, 2021 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Wayne Valley High School auditorium located at 551 Valley Road and will also be live streamed for virtual viewing.
Wayne Township Public Schools would like to wish all of our district nurses a Happy Nurses Appreciation Week. Each year from May 6th through May 12th we honor nursing professionals for all they do. National School Nurse Day takes place on May 12th and recognizes all of the nation’s school nurses who care for students each day.
The role of a school nurse is to promote learning by supporting the optimal health of students. In this past year of unprecedented difficulties and unknowns, our school nurses led the way serving as collaborators, advocates and educators. They consistently rose to meet the extreme challenges of the pandemic with strength, flexibility, patience, generosity, courage and grace. In large part due to our nurses’ diligent efforts we were able to keep our schools open and our school communities safe.
As we welcomed two new school nurses to our district this past year, Aylin Acikgoz, RN at Packanack and Brienne Trignanno, RN at ECC, we must also say farewell to Marcine Cirigliano, RN at SCMS and Cathryn Eck, RN at Wayne Hills and wish them blessings in their retirement.
We say thank you to all of our nurse leaders not only for what they do, but most importantly for who they are.
Ms. Christein’s Kindergarten class at Pines Lake Elementary celebrated May 4th with a tribute to the classic Star Wars movie and doing an activity creating Yoda out of shapes.
The Board of Education adopted a calendar for the 2020-2021 school year, which incorporates four emergency days in the schedule. To date, we have used two of those days. As a result, we will have an expanded Memorial Day break.
Please be advised that if we have no additional emergency school closings prior to May 28th, school will be closed on Friday, May 28th and Tuesday, June 1st , as well as the scheduled Memorial Day, which is on Monday, May 31st.
School will resume on Wednesday, June 2nd.
Wayne Public School’s Return to School Plan Phase 5 begins on Monday April 19, 2021. This letter is to help the school community understand what the Wayne Schools foodservices team is offering to every student. The Phase 5 plan will expand the secondary school’s (Middle & High Schools) day to a full day schedule by cohort with a lunch period. For elementary schools, the K-2 cohorts will be eliminated on 4/19 and the 3-5 cohorts will be eliminated on 4/26. Elementary school dismissal will remain at 1:45pm without a lunch period. Wayne Schools is approved until the end of June 2021 to serve free breakfast and free lunch to every student in the district.
The Preakness Early Childhood Center and Elementary schools will still have the option to preorder their lunches each week to be delivered to the classroom at dismissal. The preorder lunch site is open every week starting on Wednesday at 5pm and closes on Sunday by 4pm for the upcoming week. The site link can be found on the district website’s Foodservice Page. Click on the Fork & Knife on right side or copy & paste in your browser https://sites.google.com/wayneschools.com/lunchforms/home
The students attending in person instruction at the Secondary Schools (Middle & High Schools) do not have to preorder their lunch. The Foodservices Team is planning to feed every student the free lunch that will distributed during the lunch period. We will follow the school menu that is posted online. The lunches will be prepared in a safe kitchen and individually packaged for service. If you do not want your child(ren) to receive the free lunch during the school lunch period: Please complete the slip at the bottom and bring it to their school cafeteria before or at lunch time.
Any student that is staying home for all Virtual Learning can continue to preorder the weekly meal packs on line(see details above) or contact the foodservice office to sign up until June 30, 2021.
Please contact the foodservice office at 973-317-2239 with any questions or more information on the services offered.
