State Special Education Advisory Council Seeking Parents and Advocates
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is requesting assistance in identifying parents and advocates to sit on the State Special Education Advisory Council (SSEAC) beginning in September 2021. The purpose of the SSEAC is to provide guidance on special education and related services to the Commissioner of Education. Members of the SSEAC are appointed by the State Board of Education in accordance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and state statute (N.J.S.A. 18A:46-2). The SSEAC must consist of a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of 15 members. Additionally, one half of the members must be either parents of a child with a disability or persons with a disability. Potential members must identify with one or more of the 15 categories outlined by the federal guidelines. These categories are listed on the membership application. Regional representation is also considered.

Congratulations to Wayne Valley Senior, Ava Whisten, who was a recipient of the 2021 National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Award. According to the Women's Sports Foundation , the NGWSD inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength, and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life.

Ava helped lead her Girls' Soccer to team to three Independence Division Championships and her Girls' Basketball team to 2 Passaic County Championships.

Julia Jaworowski, Wayne Hills Junior, is a member of the high school's swim team and is losing her eyesight to Stargardt disease. She was recently featured in Northjersey.com highlighting her accomplishments both in and out of the water.

Despite all that she is overcoming, she never complains, never asks for special treatment and is a valuable member of the team." Registration will take place through each elementary school throughout the month of February. Only a parent or guardian may enroll the child.

Please go to the district website to FAMILY LINKS > REGISTRATION (or CLICK HERE) between February 1st and February 19, 2021, to complete the online registration, which is the first part of the registration process. Your school secretary will contact you to complete the next portion of the process once the online portion has been submitted and required documentation has been uploaded. Please have all required documentation ready prior to completing the online form.
