SOL Testing Requirements

Requirements:

All Virginia public school students must take and pass five (5) specific SOL tests as part of high school graduation requirements.  High school SOL tests are NOT optional.


SOL Tests NEEDED for graduation (Take and PASS):

READING (ONLY ONE [1]) - typically taken when in English 11

WRITING* (PBA - portfolio of specific class-assigned writings from English 9 [persuasive], English 10 [analytical], and English 11 [argumentative])

*NOTE:  WHS does NOT participate in the linked SOL Practice Writing test.  Again, students create a portfolio of writings throughout high school.  Each year's SOL writing assignment is extremely important.

MATH* (ONLY ONE [1]) - can be...

*NOTE:  All students must take a math SOL test at the high school level, even if one was already passed at the middle school level.

HISTORY (ONLY ONE [1]) - can be...

*NOTE:  WHS does NOT participate in the linked SOL Practice World Geography test.  Students create a portfolio of SOL work throughout the semester.  Every SOL portfolio assignment is extremely important.

*NOTE:  WHS does NOT participate in the linked SOL Practice World History I (World History and Geography to 1500 A.D.) test.  Students create a portfolio of SOL work throughout the semester.  Every SOL portfolio assignment is extremely important.

SCIENCE (ONLY ONE [1]) - can be...

*The Biology SOL must be taken as the high school level, regardless of other science SOL tests that may have already been passed.


Location:

SOL Tests must be taken in person, AT SCHOOL.  The Virginia Department of Education does not offer any other options.


Computers:

Students MUST USE THEIR SCHOOL-ISSUED CHROMEBOOKS for SOL TESTING.  Please see the details under the Drop-Down Menu "SOL Computers (School-Issued Student Chromebooks)".

All SOL testing starts at the beginning of the school day at 8:30am.

AP Testing

AP Exams are optional, but if you are taking the class, why not take the AP Exam?  It is very good college prep.
