About the book, The One and Only Ivan...

About the author, Katherine Applegate...
Katherine Applegate is the author of several books for children and young adults, including the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, the Animorphs series (which she wrote with her husband, Michael Grant.) Most recently she has written several outstanding novels, including Wishtree, Crenshaw, and Home of the Brave. Home of the Brave was awarded with with several honors. The One and Only Ivan was the winner of the 2015 Newbery Medal, which is given each year to the most distinguished book written for children. In addition to the novel, Katherine has written a picture book about Ivan as well. Katherine just began a new series last year entitled "Endling." Book 2 in the series will be published this spring.
She was born in Michigan, and now lives with her husband, two children, and several pets in California.
