Homework
Our students work hard. They show perseverance, resilience, and determination while attending JTPS. We see that and appreciate all their mental energy and effort they put into their learning each and every day.
We believe that after school is a time for our students to be with their families and become well-rounded citizens by participating in extracurricular activities. This is not to say that homework is not important. Rather, we want to prioritize our time together in school so that families can prioritize their time together outside of school.
There is an appropriate use for homework and will be given when needed. Reading will continue to be required on a nightly basis as research has shown that the more our children read, the better readers they become! Monthly Color-In Reading Logs may be sent home so families can visually track how much their children are reading. While sometimes the reading may be assigned, it’s also important that students read for pleasure to enhance their learning and personal interests.
There may be times when homework is necessary to continue the learning being done during the day. When homework is needed (outside of reading), it will be given with the expectation of a return date. Time management is a skill that will serve our students well in their lives and the sooner they are able to learn and hone this skill, the more successful they will be.
