Picking A Monologue
Picking A Monologue
Be aware of your time limit. If you have an 8 minute slot and your song is 5 minutes, try not to pick a longer monologue.
Pick a monologue that best fits your character’s personality if possible.
Play to your strengths. Try to pick a monologue that you could perform well.
Take risks if possible. While it's beneficial to play to your strengths, a challenge sometimes pays off, and if anything, the director will recognize the risk you took.
Whenever possible, choose a monologue that allows you to move around and show a range of emotions.
Do NOT pick a monologue that is already performed by the character or already in the show you’re auditioning for.
Again, begin learning as soon as possible.
