Welcome to Waterford Union High School and all the many activities that our great school has to offer.
The Baseball program consists of three levels.
Varsity and JV1
· consists of 18 – 20 players on average
· plays 26 games
JV2
· consists of 16 – 18 players
· plays 18 games
First day of practice usually starts around March 19 – 21, pitchers and catchers start a week early. The teams are inside for the first three or four day of tryouts. If the weather dictates, we will go outside as soon as possible.
Players will be placed on a team by their ability. For example, if a freshman is good enough to play on JV1 or Varsity that player will be given the chance to make that team. Age does not determine your team, your ability determines where you will play. In addition, players may move down a level. For example, a junior will be able to play on JV1 or a sophomore may play on JV2. The only age that cannot move is a senior, they can only be on the varsity.
The varsity and the JV1 team will travel south over spring break in odd years. Our last trip, the spring of 2019, we went to Disney for a week and played a total of 8 games: 4 varsity and 4 JV1.. Our next trip will be in 2021 if the schedule permits. All three teams will play and practice over spring break whether we are on a trip or not. Missing games due to family trips will result in missing games when your son returns.
