4. On slide 8, create your independent work plan for the day

5. Read 15 minutes of your nonfiction text

   • Access nonfiction texts below

   • Be on the lookout for the text structure and clues that point you to the type of structure it is

6. On slide 8, identify the structure of the text you are reading

   • In the purple box, explain how you identified the structure of the text you were reading

     • What were some clues that pointed you towards the text structure you identified?

7. Read 25 minutes of fiction

   • Continue practicing the strategies from our fiction unit

     • This is your generic, broad opinion

   • In the right columns, write 3 ways to write a stronger opinion for your essay

4. Make a decision about which strong opinion you will use in your writing.
