FLEX - There is time built in to every school day for students to receive additional assistance. Teachers can request students to attend a flex session if they see that they could use some additional help. Teachers might also use FLEX to provide a student time to do a make up test or quiz if needed. Students may also request to go to a particular teacher if they need additional help.
School's Out Afterschool Program - ASU students will be in the library every Mon - Thursday from 3:30 - 5:30 for FREE TUTORING! This program is offered through the GEAR UP grant and Mountain Alliance. Snacks will be provided.
National Honor Society Tutoring - Students in the National Honor Society offer tutoring throughout the year. They can meet before, during or after school to work with students individually. Please see a classroom teacher or counselor to set up tutoring.
Tutor.com - Through the App State GEAR UP Grant, all 9th and 10th graders at Watauga High School have free access to online homework help through Tutor.com. To find out more information, please visit the Watauga County Schools GEAR UP website. To access Tutor.com directly, visit: http://www.tutor.com/appstate. Students will login with their PowerSchool ID and the password "gearup". Please contact Karen Norris, our GEAR UP Coordinator, at norrisk@wataugaschools.org with any questions or feedback!
You can monitor your child's progress through your Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) account. This will allow you to see current progress reports to assess whether your child has missing or late assignments, if they're doing their homework, and how they're performing on quizzes and tests. If you need assistance with obtaining this account, please contact Mrs. Reyes, reyesa@wataugaschools.org
Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher through email. You can also call the main office (828-264-2407) to leave them a message. Your child's teacher is the best person to contact because they can provide feedback on your child's strengths and areas of need in their specific class. You can speak with them on the phone, through email or request a conference.
If your child is struggling in more than one class and you would like to request a conference with all teachers, you may contact their assigned counselor to schedule a meeting.
