An Interview With Mr. Floyd Larry
How long have you been making music, and how did you first get inspired to make music?
"I’ve been making music since 2018, I started out just making beats and rapping on my phone cause I didn’t have a laptop. I got inspired by listening to the gorillaz."
You’ve made an album a year for last several years, how do you stay so productive and creative/inspired?
"Honestly it’s hard. I kinda view music as journaling so every time I feel something, I pick up my guitar. I view albums as just how my year is going."
(This one’s a two parter) Each song of yours sounds vastly unique, but has a consistent sound throughout. How did you find this unique sound, and how have you kept your music sounding original and like no other?
"Honestly when i play the guitar I think of what I’m playing as shapes so I repeat shapes plus I choose specific notes to how feeling which I feel quite often."
Kinda piggybacking off the last question, but are there any common themes throughout your songs, lyric -wise?
"My music is about self reflection, love, friends and just life in general"
Do you have a band that you record songs with or is it just you?
I record everything myself at the moment but in the future I plan on recording and making music with my band!
The song "I just want some conversation" by Mr. Floyd Larry perfectly shows how much personality and talent he injects into his music. This is exemplified through an infectious bassline paired with wistful lyrics about a failed relationship.
The song “uneasy” by Mr. Floyd Larry is a great example of who he is as an artist. The song includes: A guitar that sounds like it’s coming straight out of a TV, a synth that tells a story all on its own, and of course, a bassline that carries the song on its own. All of these parts together show that Mr. Floyd Larry can paint with his music.
