Welcome! I'm Eileen Wood, a dedicated Special Education Teacher for grades 1–8 with a passion for making learning an exciting adventure. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and General Education, and I began my teaching journey in 2013 in a district outside of Madison. Prior to teaching, I honed my skills as a paraprofessional at an intermediate school, working with grades 3–5.
When I'm not in the classroom, life keeps me busy in many ways. As a mom of two energetic elementary school children, I not only enjoy watching them grow but also get the opportunity to explore the country together—my children have visited 25 of the 51 states, including an unforgettable two‐week trip to Alaska!
I love coaching and am actively involved in volleyball, soccer, and track. Mathematics holds a special place in my heart, and I'm always eager to share its wonders with my students. You might often find me in my trusty flip flops, ready for any spontaneous adventure or classroom surprise.
Outside of work, I enjoy a variety of activities that keep me active and creative—swimming, paddleboarding, playing volleyball, watching TV, coloring with sharpies, and playing traditional board games. I also have a deep love for travel and have explored every part of the United States.
Thanks for stopping by my website, and I hope you enjoy learning more about my journey and passions!
My journey as an educator has been significantly enriched by my diverse memberships and roles. As a member of a Restorative Justice team, I have fostered a supportive environment that emphasizes conflict resolution and healing. Serving as a teacher mentor in the past has allowed me to guide and inspire fellow educators, enhancing our collaborative efforts. My role as the Finance Director for the Student Housing Administrative Council in college provided me with valuable insights into administrative processes and resource management. Being certified in Non-violent Crisis Intervention has equipped me with essential skills to handle challenging situations with empathy and care. Additionally, my involvement in PBIS as both a Tier 1 and Tier 2 member has strengthened my commitment to creating positive behavioral supports in the school. As a certified Red Cross Infant/Adult CPR/AED/First Aid provider, I prioritize student safety and well-being. Participating in Relay for Life and volunteering for the Special Olympics has deepened my understanding of community engagement and advocacy. As a past advisor for the Homework Club and a member of the curriculum team, I have contributed to student success and educational development. Leading the Special Education team has reinforced my dedication to inclusivity, while my experience as a volleyball coach has allowed me to nurture teamwork and resilience in students. Each of these roles has played a crucial part in my growth and effectiveness as an educator.
My strengths include patience and empathy, allowing me to create a calm and supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace and navigate their unique emotional and behavioral challenges. I demonstrate resilience and dedication, which are essential for fostering student growth and managing stressful situations effectively. Additionally, my sense of humor helps diffuse tense moments and contributes to a positive classroom atmosphere. Collaboration is another key strength, as I work effectively with parents, colleagues, and professionals to develop comprehensive learning plans. I possess strong behavioral management skills, enabling me to reward positive actions and resolve conflicts. Furthermore, my critical thinking and problem-solving abilities allow me to find innovative solutions for diverse learning needs, while modifying curriculum and teaching methods to meet individual student needs remains a core responsibility.
My primary objective as an educator is to empower my students to evolve into the best versions of themselves across various dimensions of their lives. I strive to support their academic growth by fostering a passion for learning that goes beyond the classroom. I aim to create an environment where they feel safe to explore their intellectual curiosities, take risks, and develop critical thinking skills. Equally important is their social and emotional development; I want my students to cultivate strong relationships, build resilience, and develop a sense of empathy towards others. Furthermore, I recognize the value of physical health and athleticism, encouraging my students to engage in sports and physical activities that promote teamwork and personal well-being. By nurturing these multifaceted aspects—academically, socially, emotionally, and athletically—I aspire to guide my students toward realizing their fullest potential and becoming well-rounded individuals ready to face the challenges of the future.
