Concert Choir

Syllabus

Concert Choir is a mixed ensemble open to any student in grades 9-12, no audition required.  Students participating in this group will develop their musicianship skills.  Focus will be placed on music theory, sight-reading, proper vocal production, diction, style, and refining the role of the individual in a large performance ensemble.  Concert Choir will perform a variety of repertoire from various time periods and genres. Concert Choir will perform in 4 Concerts per year and large group contest. A Limited number of individual voice lessons are available to members during the school day.   Concert choir is a full year commitment and membership for the entire year is required for participation in a major choir trip.

Syllabus

Prerequisite(s): Open to qualified students by audition in grades 10, 11, and 12.

Select Choir is an auditioned ensemble in grades 10-12.  Auditions take place in the spring for the following year.  Students participating in this group will continue to develop their musicianship skills.  Focus will be placed on music theory, sight-reading, proper vocal production, diction, style, and refining the role of the individual in a large performance ensemble.  Select Choir will perform a variety of repertoire from various time periods and genres. Select Choir will perform in 4 Concerts per year, large group contest, Veteran’s Day, Graduation, and other community events. A limited number of individual voice lessons are available to members during the school day.   Select Choir is a full year commitment and membership for the entire year is required for participation in a major choir trip.

Marching Band

Syllabus

Marching Band, parade and field, is made up of instrumental students enrolled in grades 9-12.  The marching band performs at home football games, several marching competitions, parades, the Indoor Marching Concert, and other appearances scheduled during the year.  Marching Band meets daily. Students are also required to be in attendance of Spat Camp, which starts during the summer, prior to the school year.  Instrumental Music is a full year commitment.



Bluejay Band/Concert Band

The Concert Band performs at three concerts each year, including the Indoor Marching Concert for students in 1st Trimester Bluejay Band, the Winter Concert in the 2nd Trimester, the Pops Concert in the 3rd Trimester.  This ensemble also participates in the State Large Group Contest. As a pep band, members perform at some home athletic events, pep assemblies, and other school activities. Concert Band meets daily, and Instrumental Music courses are a full year commitment.

Symphonic Band

Prerequisite(s): Open to students in grades 10-12 who have successfully gained membership by audition.

This is a more advanced ensemble with higher demands on musicianship and individual expectations.  The Symphonic Band presents two concerts a year and participates in the State Large Group Contest.  As a pep band, members perform at some home athletic events, pep assemblies, and other school activities.  Symphonic Band meets daily. Instrumental Music is a full year commitment.

Beginning Band

Course Type: Elective (Art Credit)

Prerequisite(s): None

This class is for students who have never participated in Band and want to learn a concert band instrument. The Beginning Band performs at several concerts each year, including a concert in the Winter and a concert in the Spring. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Jazz Band and Pep Band. As a Pep Band member, you would perform at some home athletic events, pep assemblies, and other school activities. Beginning Band meets daily and Instrumental Music courses are a full year commitment.


Example instruments to learn include: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion. Guitar is not an option.
