Todd Grimes

A 25 year veteran of public education, Mr. Grimes began his career in 1994 as a health and physical education teacher at Chariho Regional High School. A 1992 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Mr. Grimes went on to earn his Master’s in Physical Education and Exercise Science in 2003, as well as a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Rhode Island College in 2012. Mr. Grimes’ extensive school leadership experience commenced upon being named athletic director in 1997. He served thirteen years as the district’s athletic director, and was awarded the NIAAA State Award of Merit in 2009. Mr. Grimes also served eight years as the health and physical education department chair, and spent his final two years at Chariho as Dean of Students.

Mr. Grimes began his administrative career in 2012 at Ponaganset High School, serving three years as Associate Principal. Mr. Grimes followed that with a brief stint as Assistant Principal of Student Services at North Kingstown High School prior to being named Principal at Westerly High School in August 2015. Three years later, Mr. Grimes joined the administrative team at Toll Gate High School as Assistant Principal for Climate and Culture.

Active at the state level, Mr. Grimes has served on the Rhode Island Instructional Leadership Academy, as well as the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, The Principals’ Committee on Athletics Grades 6 - 8, and the Rhode Island Association of School Principals. He is known as a strong advocate for students, and has been at the forefront of college and career pathways development at the state and local level to ensure equity and opportunity for all students.
