-Our Mission-
To inspire and equip all students to continuously acquire and apply STEM-related knowledge and skills. Through participation and leadership in STEM, they will pursue their dreams, which will allow them to enrich the lives of others.
-Our Vision-
Our vision for STEM at Warsaw is to be a lead innovator of K-12 STEM education; where together, ALL are catalysts to be change-makers without limits.
At Jefferson Elementary School, our mission is to foster a learning environment where every student is encouraged to explore, innovate, and collaborate to achieve their fullest potential. We are committed to preparing students for the ever-evolving demands of the 21st century, ensuring they become critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and creators. Our vision emphasizes the importance of integrating real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into the curriculum to equip students with the skills necessary for success in the future workforce.
Indiana’s STEM education priorities align seamlessly with Jefferson Elementary’s mission and vision. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) outlines a clear focus on STEM integration, ensuring equitable access to high-quality STEM learning experiences for all students, preparing them for career and college readiness. At Jefferson, we take pride in providing students with hands-on, inquiry-based STEM activities that emphasize these key state priorities:
1. STEM Literacy and Skill Development
Jefferson’s curriculum encourages students to actively engage in STEM learning through interdisciplinary lessons that integrate math, science, technology, and engineering concepts. Whether through coding activities using Sphero robots, building projects with LEGO Spike, or experimenting with Snap Circuits, we provide students with ample opportunities to develop critical STEM literacy, fostering skills such as collaboration, creativity, and analytical thinking. These experiences are closely tied to Indiana’s goal of increasing STEM proficiency and preparing students for future career demands.
2. Equitable Access to STEM Education
We believe in “STEM for All,” ensuring that all students, regardless of background or ability, have access to meaningful STEM experiences. Jefferson Elementary aligns with the IDOE’s emphasis on equity by offering differentiated STEM activities tailored to a wide range of learning styles and needs. For example, our 'Snap-Shot' STEM lessons, which can be integrated with existing curricula, allow every student in grades K-6 to experience engaging, relevant STEM learning. By partnering with community organizations like Orthoworx and local businesses, we extend our commitment to equitable access, ensuring all students benefit from cutting-edge technology and resources.
3. Real-World Application and Career Readiness
Jefferson’s approach to STEM education highlights real-world applications that prepare students for the future. Aligned with Indiana’s priorities, our project-based learning (PBL) activities, such as designing solutions to real-world challenges or engaging in coding exercises, help students make connections between classroom learning and real-world careers. Through these activities, we aim to cultivate interest in STEM fields and provide foundational skills that support career readiness, a key objective of Indiana’s STEM education priorities.
4. Collaboration with Industry and Community
We recognize that strong partnerships with industry leaders and the local community are vital for enhancing STEM learning. Jefferson Elementary partners with organizations such as the Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams, Purdue Extension, and Parkview to provide students with authentic STEM experiences. This collaboration aligns with the IDOE’s focus on building school-community-industry partnerships to enhance students’ awareness of STEM careers and provide mentorship opportunities.
Through our comprehensive STEM programming and unwavering dedication to excellence, Jefferson Elementary is leading the charge to not only meet but exceed Indiana’s STEM education priorities. By fostering curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving, we are building a foundation for our students’ future success in the global economy, ensuring they are well-prepared for college, careers, and beyond.
At Jefferson Elementary, our STEM Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting and supporting STEM initiatives within the school. These students, selected for their passion, curiosity, and leadership skills, are the face of STEM engagement at Jefferson.
As key student leaders, they inspire their peers and assist in various STEM activities, serving as advocates for innovation and creativity across all grade levels. The duties of our STEM Ambassadors include but are not limited to:
Peer Mentoring and Support
STEM Ambassadors assist their classmates during STEM lessons and activities, offering guidance and support in areas such as coding, robotics, and hands-on experiments. They serve as mentors, helping their peers understand complex concepts while fostering collaboration and teamwork.
STEM Event Coordination
Ambassadors help organize and run STEM events such as STEM fairs, after-school clubs, and community showcase nights. They take on leadership roles during these events, managing stations, presenting projects, and ensuring that all participants have meaningful and engaging experiences.
Promoting STEM Awareness
As advocates for STEM, Ambassadors promote STEM opportunities within the school. They create awareness of the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math by delivering presentations, creating posters, and communicating upcoming STEM events to fellow students.
Collaboration with Teachers and Administrators
STEM Ambassadors collaborate with Jefferson's teachers and STEM leadership team to provide feedback on STEM programming and suggest improvements to enhance learning experiences. They act as liaisons between students and staff, representing the student voice in shaping the future of STEM education at Jefferson.
Leadership Development
By participating in the STEM Ambassador program, students build critical leadership skills that prepare them for future academic and career success. Through their involvement, they learn to problem-solve, communicate effectively, and take initiative, all while developing a deep understanding of STEM subjects.
