Follow these steps to help you revise for your Ingenium GCSE…
Knowledge:
Step 1:
Download the specification for your subject. You can find this on the relevant exam board website. Make sure that you use the actual exam board website to be sure that the specification you use is accurate. If you are not certain that you have the correct specification, check with your teacher.
Step 2:
Use the specification, combined with your personal learning checklist, as the basis for your revision. For each point, theme or topic on the specification, make sure that you know the information. The only way to do this is to make notes from memory and then check these against a textbook, knowledge organiser or your own previous notes. It is really important that you do this from memory first so that you can identify the gaps in your knowledge.
Step 3:
For any gaps in your knowledge, go over the notes you have for the topic or the relevant sections in the textbook/online resources. Then test yourself again.
Application of knowledge:
Step 1:
If your exam board publishes a list of command words, download these.
Download examples of past pacers - if you cannot find these online, either your Ingenium lead teacher or your subject support teacher will be able to help you.
Step 2:
Make sure that you understand what each command word requires.
Step 3:
Use the past papers and/or practice questions in the textbook/online resources. Write practice answers to the questions. Use either the mark scheme or advice from your teacher to check the quality of your answers.
You might want to answer some of the practice questions “open book” i.e. with your notes in front of you, but it is important that you also practise some without your notes.
Step 4 - an optional extra:
Write your own practice questions. Write a mark shame for the practice questions from memory. You could do this in conjunction with a student following the same GCSE as you and then write responses to each others’ questions.
Remember…
If it feels hard going this is ok! Revision is hard!
If there are things you cannot remember the first time round, this is ok - it is hard to remember everything and you might not remember every single thing!
Take breaks away from your screen and notes. Include some physical activity in your breaks. A short walk can really help your focus.
Eat a healthy diet.
Do all you can to maintain healthy sleep patterns.
If it feels overwhelming, talk to someone. Talking can help.
You are brilliant! You have led the way with this option and have learnt so much. Just do your best.
