We believe that our ESG-related efforts contribute to building a better future and strengthening relationships with our stakeholders.
Below, we present specific initiatives and achievements that make us more people- and planet-friendly. We hope our efforts bring real benefits and inspire further positive change.
Dear Readers,
In a world full of challenges and dynamic change, our company takes responsibility not only for economic performance but also for the impact we have on the environment, society, and the broader business landscape.
We are currently developing a strategy that places sustainable development at its core. Soon, we will also be subject to new obligations under the EU CSRD directive, which requires companies to report on ESG-related data.
I believe that sustainable development is not just a necessity, it is an opportunity. An opportunity to create innovative solutions, build lasting relationships with stakeholders, and introduce long-term, positive change.
This brochure is built around three key pillars: environmental protection, social responsibility, and transparent, ethical governance.
I am confident that together we can build a better future, rooted in values that matter to us all.

Area E
Environment
Walstead CE is committed to a responsible approach to the environment. We consistently invest in low-impact technologies and processes. Aware of the challenges posed by the printing industry, from greenhouse gas emissions and resource use to waste management, we systematically implement innovations that reduce our environmental footprint.
To this end, we undertake a variety of actions, from comprehensive energy-saving and recycling solutions to optimizing logistics and pioneering research projects in collaboration with scientific institutions.
Eco-design, commitment to circular resource flows, and implementation of modern solutions such as LED lighting, heat recovery systems, and carbon offsetting initiatives demonstrate our genuine ambition in environmental protection.
The investment reduced gas consumption by up to 30%, leading to an energy savings of nearly 2300 GWh annually, a reduction of 16,000 m³ of gas, and 32 tons of CO₂ emissions saved each year.
We developed an in-house CO₂ emissions calculator compliant with the GHG Protocol. The tool covers Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, helping us better understand our climate impact and make informed sustainability decisions.
Replacing four older machines with two energy-efficient ones has improved production quality and reduced energy consumption by 50%.
Thanks to the installation of modern, energy-efficient LED lighting systems in all our facilities in Poland, we have managed to reduce energy consumption by an impressive 3,000+ gigawatt hours (GWh)!
We have installed advanced, automated energy cut-off systems on our production lines during downtime. These eco-friendly solutions help reduce unnecessary energy consumption and improve the overall efficiency of our facilities.
We partner with EURO 5-compliant carriers, and our forklifts use Li-ion batteries, eliminating harmful emissions and noise pollution.
Moving to digital documentation has significantly reduced paper use, archiving costs, and waste generation.
We replaced plastic wrap with paper banding, cutting energy consumption in the packaging process from 30–40 to less than 1 kWh.
This cooling technology allows efficient temperature control during hot weather with minimal energy use, cutting CO₂ emissions by 475 tons.
We implemented a grant-funded project supported by the National Centre for Research and Development, titled “Platform for integrated management, planning and control of logistics processes in a manufacturing company using cyber-physical systems”. The aim of the initiative was to optimize the company’s logistics system, covering supply, production, warehousing, and distribution, in order to directly and indirectly reduce energy intensity and minimize the environmental impact of our operations.
As part of the project, we successfully managed to:
reduce CO₂ emissions from transport by eliminating empty pallet spaces and improving load planning,
optimize paper and energy consumption by implementing a modern monitoring system that enables early detection of material defects,
precisely manage deliveries through real-time tracking algorithms for semi-finished and finished products,
automate repetitive tasks with the use of autonomous carts and support systems that assist employees in their daily work.
We expect this initiative to significantly improve the efficiency of resource use, while also reducing operational costs and the environmental footprint of our business.
In response to growing environmental challenges, we have developed and introduced fully biodegradable POS (Point of Sale) materials to the market.
In 2021, we launched a project co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development, titled “Development of an innovative and environmentally friendly advertising display”. Our goal was to replace conventional plastics, such as PET and PVC, with modern, environmentally friendly materials that have a significantly lower impact on the environment. The display stand we created represents a breakthrough alternative to traditional POS solutions.
As part of the project, we:
used biodegradable price strips, fasteners, and screws,
incorporated rubber tape and eco-friendly adhesive,
optimized the design to fully align with the principles of sustainable development.
Thanks to these solutions, we significantly reduce plastic waste and minimize the risk of soil and water pollution caused by microplastics. It’s another step toward more responsible production and greater environmental protection.
With local flora and fauna in mind, we created a wildflower meadow next to one of our production sites. This initiative promotes biodiversity, provides natural habitats for pollinators, and positively influences the surrounding microclimate. It’s a great example of how nature can be supported on a micro scale — with real, tangible impact.
30% of the paper used in our Polish facilities comes from fully recycled fibers. This reduces our demand for natural resources, helps minimize waste, and supports forest conservation.
We support tree-planting programs that not only offset CO₂ emissions but also contribute to local environmental initiatives. Through these efforts, we strengthen our relationship with local communities and create added value for surrounding ecosystems.
We source paper from responsible suppliers, thereby supporting forest preservation and the protection of forest ecosystems. We use paper certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), confirming that the raw material comes from sustainably managed forests.
At our Starachowice facility, we implemented an innovative system that recovers heat from printing processes to warm buildings and supply heat to about 200 local homes, significantly cutting the community’s carbon footprint.
We use the heat generated during air compression to warm our production halls. This reduces the need for external heat sources and lowers emissions related to heating.
Modern heat recovery systems installed in our ventilation systems significantly reduce electricity consumption. These solutions go beyond industry standards and directly address today’s challenges in energy efficiency and emission reduction.
We optimized the insulation of our buildings and systems by using, among other solutions, a vacuum system with frequency-controlled pumps. This has led to significant savings in electricity consumption, resulting in a lower environmental footprint of our daily operations.
Within our logistics system in Poland, 10% of the pallets used are CHEP pallets, which are fully recyclable and reusable. This solution reduces wood consumption, limits waste, and streamlines distribution. It allows us to combine operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.
Our comprehensive approach to waste management includes paper recovery, aluminum plate recycling, and foil sorting. Every kilogram of recovered paper and aluminum is returned to circulation, reducing our environmental impact and limiting the use of virgin raw materials.
