Insurance & Repair Information
Accidents happen! Be prepared!
Even the most careful students sometimes have accidents with their Chromebooks. That's why Walpole Public Schools offers optional Chromebook insurance for students in Grades 6-12. Without insurance, repairs for accidental damage will be charged for the cost of parts. These costs can add up! Typical costs (subject to change without notice) may be:
Screen repair/replacement: $45
Damaged AC Adapter (charger): $35
Keyboard replacement: $50
Full replacement cost of Chromebook: $240
Other types of repairs, or more complex or additional damage found during repair may incur higher repair costs
To help prevent expensive repair costs, we recommend an annual $30 insurance plan, which can be paid online via MySchoolBucks. Click the school button for your school to make your payment.
Insurance & Repair FAQ
Q: What is covered by the insurance?
A: The insurance covers accidental damage to screens, keyboard, charger, body, and/or internal electronics. The insurance does not cover intentional or malicious damage or lost items. Students may also face disciplinary action for intentional damage or negligent care, including using the Chromebook to charge other devices (i.e., phones).
Q: What if we don't purchase the insurance?
A: Families who choose not to purchase the insurance will be charged for the cost of parts for the repair or the cost of a replacement Chromebook. (See estimated costs above).
Q: How do I report a damaged Chromebook?
A: Families and students can request help by submitting a ticket to the WPS Tech Help Desk. If the team determines that repairs are necessary, damaged Chromebooks can be dropped off in the school's Media Center. Temporary loaner Chromebooks will be available while the device is being repaired.
Damage or repair needs must be reported immediately. Tech Support forms will be made available to students in Grades 6 through 12, and parents of children in Grades Kindergarten through 5.
Q: Who repairs the Chromebooks?
A: All repairs or replacement parts must be done or acquired by the WPS Technology Dept. Do not purchase any parts, attempt self-repair or use any other repair service on these school-owned devices.
Q: What if we purchased a multi-year insurance plan in the past?
A: Although multi-year plans are not offered this school year, past multi-year plans will still be honored.
Note: since WPS did not offer an insurance plan for the 2020-2021 school year, that year did not count toward multi-year plans. For example, a family that purchased a 3-yr plan in '19-'20 will be on "Year 3" of the plan during the '22-'23 school year.
