Middle School Grade 7 & 8

1:1

For the 2018-2019 school year, Bird and Johnson Middle Schools have expanded the 1:1 program to include all incoming 7th & 8th grade students. These Chromebooks, combined with Google Apps for Education (G-Suite), will give students the technology tools necessary to communicate, collaborate, create and publish their work in a 21st century learning environment. The Chromebooks will become one of the tools to support critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and research skills in our classrooms.

To provide you with as much information as possible, we have put together this 1:1 Chromebook website that contains information about the device, insurance, FAQs and most importantly, the forms that must be completed and submitted to the district before Chromebooks can be used at home. Please take some time to look over this website.

All grade 7 & 8 students for the 2018-2019 school year will receive their Chromebook, charger and case at the start of the school year. For approximately three weeks, Chromebooks will remain in school and charged at the end of each school day. Pending signatures of all required forms and insurance, students will be able to take Chromebooks home on September 20th, provided students return their signed Loan Agreement form along with a check (if they are purchasing the optional insurance).

Prior to the start of Open House (September 18th for JMS parents and September 20th for BMS parents), each middle school will host an optional informational meeting for 7th & 8th grade parents to discuss this program in more detail, and to answer any questions you might have.

Should you still have questions about this program after reviewing the information on the website, please do not hesitate to contact your school's principal. These questions will guide us to update our website, and will allow us to address your concerns in a comprehensive manner at our informational meeting that will take place prior to Open House (specific time to be announced at a later date).
