Because There Are No Words

Because there are no words.

Only echoes surround you.

Some coming from others like you,

But you cannot understand.

You cannot even think,

Because you have no words.

There are just things with no names.

All equally new and exciting,

That pass in and out of your view,

You wish you could discover what they are

And so you touch them and stare at them,

Maybe put them in your mouth.

Fascinated by these objects for hours,

Because there are no words.

There is light and dark,

And endless colors too,

That confuse you all,

Because there are no words.

Yet you listen to these echoes,

Most strange of all you’ve experienced.

And with others’ words,

You begin to piece the world together

In a way that makes sense,

Because there are words.

No one I have ever met

Can remember this time,

When they were a small child,

Because there are no words.
