Abiding Acoustics
By Katie Hurwitz
The moment the hairs of my bow touch the string
A new world has arisen
The composition commences
Our ears suddenly wake up
As we hear feelings
Our emotions are stirred up
And our heart warms up and sings
Because of how the music affects us.
I play my cello with compassion
Each note brings forth a new chapter
Some are bold and played with great force
Others are so gentle it is hard to grasp.
The melodic aspect brings us forward
We are moved to a world we never saw before.
The progression of notes are ensured with vibrato
At times they move before our eyes
Other times one note can be sustained
Until change is necessary.
Suddenly, something so major and sweet can be at its most dissonant
But we must remember
Even at the most dissonant of times
Even during our suffering
Our heartbreak
Our weak moments in life
It will always be resolved.
These notes are methodically planned out by myself
I have a plan for this composition
Every note happens for a reason, whether the ears listening notice it or not
I gave life to a composition
I gave life to such a beauty so complex our little minds cannot understand its purpose
And in times of harmony
Our two notes are like two angels each with only one wing
So one angel cannot fly without the other
The other half of our composition.
Fulfillment travels to the ears listening every so sweetly
But even with dissonance
The piece becomes stronger
My bow is always on my cello
I will not let go until the end
And when the end does come
I will let it off gingerly
Legacy is important for such a great composition
As each composition is important in a world of music
Thus, each note is critical and planned in a composition
And harmonies are the support necessary for a functional life.
My bow lifts off the cello and the ears never hear it again
They will always remember the composition
And will play it over and over in their minds
They await the powers of my cello
And simply speaking
That is the meaning of life.
