A Drop's Desire

By Katie Hurwitz

I arrived in the belly of a cloud

In Heaven pregnant with love

Falling down from the sky

Floating into existence

Forming connections with new clouds

I will begin my life’s journey

Relying on a cloud

To hold me soundly

She then

Will let me free

I will explore

The cliffs

Dripping into a pool of society

I am a raindrop

Falling to the earth

Spreading music to the world

With each percussive drop

When there are no sounds

There are no storms

Just silence

We cannot fall upon the earth

Without music

A world without music

Is a drought

I remember the lush grass

Hard cement

Rocky Mountains

Soothing seas

I remember it all

I have an impact upon it all

For whatever I touch

I moisten

I give a part of myself

I love the other drops

We fall together

Conjoined

Giving water to the earth

I am never tied to the past

With a constantly changing state

I prepare never to die

To be born again

In a new form

I will live as a free spirit

A changing form

A lake when tranquil

A single drop of condensation when alone

A cloud when protected

A storm when angry

Yet always

I unite with the other drops

I woke up one morning in a lake

A lily pad holding hands

With the waves

We we still

Nowhere to go

No rush to move

Juxtaposing with our suffering

The external cause

The freezer of broken society

Shakes us into ice crystals

Forbidden to change back the shape of water

My body

Is elegant

A sphere of light

Stretched out across time

Rolling down a car window

If I could say anything

If my sound were more than a plunk in a puddle

I would tell all that I left alone

I love them

I would hold their hands

Form a drop of two

Never be lonely again
