On March 16, 2024, my mom, my friend and I went to the Kevin and Chris's Noodle house, also known as Pho Huynh Hiep 6. As soon as we entered, we were hit with the smell of warm and welcoming broth and soup. The restaurant has a nice interior and smells wonderfully intriguing (like rich broths with chicken and other warm meats). We were almost immediately brought to a table by the windows on the parking lot side. We were also offered water nearly right as we sat down. The restaurant is bustling, but not disturbingly busy, and has plenty of waitstaff to deliver our meals quickly. A few minutes after we sat down a waitress came to take our orders, and politely left after we said we needed more time. Possibly forgetting about us, another waiter came to take our order slightly more than a couple minutes later. This was probably just a harmless, uncommon mistake. I would not expect this the be a pattern you will see and Kevin and Chris's Noodle House, but there is a possibility. After all, we might have needed that much time because of such a lengthy menu that has options for everyone. From Pho, to different soups, to rice plates, to drinks, this menu will satisfy anyone, especially on a cold winter day.
In the end, I ended up ordering #26, called "Mì", a dish with "Egg noodle soup, shrimp, fish cake, slices of pork, ground pork and chicken" (directly from the menu). My mom ordered #23, called "Hủ Tiếu", a dish with "thick circle rice noodle soup, with shrimp, fish cake, slices of pork, and chicken" (directly from the menu). My friend ordered #36 "Cơm Sườn Hột Gà", a rice plate with "2 grilled pork chops, a sunny side egg, with rice" (all descriptions directly from the menu). Now to the eating and tasting!
First up; #26, Mì. The soup came steaming hot and delicious, full of flavor and warmth. The restaurant also has all the utensils you need on the table, so you can choose from soup spoons, chopsticks, or forks. The broth was very flavorful but not too heavy, the perfect combination. The broth seemed to be a meat stock, possibly chicken. The shrimp was not overcooked, a hard thing to accomplish with such hot broth. The chicken was just a hint overcooked, just a little tough. The pork was thinly sliced and slightly overcooked, but it is extremely hard to not do so, with again, such hot broth. Though, all of the proteins absorbed the flavor of the broth, giving them a beautiful flavor, but they could have elaborated more. If the flavors would have been different then the soup would be more interesting. There was a garnish of thickly cut spring onions that added more flavor and a well complementing texture- a crunchy bite in the middle of all the soft bites. Definitely a great addition. The noodles were well cooked and had the flavor of the broth, which is a good thing. The fish cakes were exquisitely tender and had the flavor of the broth. They would have been more exciting if the fish cake had a more fish-like and not meaty flavor, but still very well done. Even though this dish had mostly one flavor, that flavor was quite complex and not too boring. The little different things throughout this dish have really made it shine.
My next dish is #23, Hủ Tiếu. This dish was another wonderful and pleasing soup. The broth was light and had a nice, meaty flavor to it. The noodles complemented the rest of the soup well and were well cooked to a soft texture, but had a bite so that they still be held together. The shrimp was again, perfectly cooked. The broth flavor was throughout the soup's meat and all other elements. Again, I wish there were more different flavors to give the soup more diversity but still, the soup is delicious. The Hủ Tiếu soup was well cooked with every element and delicious, with the flavor the the broth going through. Overall, this was a well executed soup, with just one thing that I would change. Kevin and Chris's Noodle House (Pho Huynh Hiep), you're definitely doing well so far!
My third and final dish today is Cơm Sườn Hột Gà! To start out- the rice. The rice was very well cooked, sticky and fluffy. The rice absorbed the flavor of the seasoned pork chop, giving it the tender flavor of pork which I liked very much so. The sunny side up egg was perfectly crispy on the bottom, but the egg white on top was a little under cooked, so therefore, slimy. The pork chop was well cooked and had a sort of five spice-Vietnamese flavor, which was delicious. This dish had excellent flavor and the only fault was the cooking of the egg. Overall, another fabulous dish.
The wrap it up, would rate Kevin and Chris's Noodle House (Pho Huynh Hiep) and 4 out of five stars because all of their food is wonderful. All of their dishes have lots of flavor and I have only come across very little flaws, but Kevin and Chris's Noodle House (Pho Huynh Hiep), has nothing that completely stands out or amazes me, and there menu is mostly the same thing with different versions. But overall, Kevin and Chris's Noodle House (Pho Huynh Hiep) is a very well done restaurant and is definitely worth a try to go to. I hope all of those who visit Kevin and Chris's Noodle House (Pho Huynh Hiep) enjoy their time there!
