The Tyrannosaurus rex. It was 15 to 20 feet tall, almost the height of a street lamp post. It’s also as long as a school bus. When you think of a T-Rex you’ll probably think of a giant green scaly lizard stomping around and roaring with its tail dragging on the ground. And most of that is probably false!
Although no one knows what colour a Tyrannosaurus was, paleontologists do know some other things about it. First, its posture. You most likely imagine it walking like godzilla, dragging its tail on the ground. Instead it most likely stood in a more horizontal stance, like in the Jurassic Park movies. Second, noise. You most likely imagine a deafening roar coming from a T-Rex, like the Jurassic Park movies, but in reality a Tyrannosaurus rex probably didn’t make too much noise at all. Think about it, why would they roar as loud as they could before they attack something? It’d give their prey a chance to escape. It's more likely they made a low pitch sort of grunting noise, which didn’t require them to open their mouth. The reason scientists think this is because ostrich’s of today make similar vocalizations.
And lastly, drumroll please. FEATHERS! Dinosaurs had feathers! Get over it! It is commonly believed that the Tyrannosaurus rex had feathers virtually everywhere except, the tip of its tail, it’s face, and it’s feet. Similar to how on a bird the feathers stop at the feet. But enough about the legendary T-Rex, lets get her perspective.
Her Perspective
I’m Sue, an absolutely humongous female Tyrannosaurus rex. I’m an adult now with a pretty large territory. It’s spring time, meaning tons of rain and food for the tasty herbivorous dinosaurs. I get up from my nest and after making sure my hatchlings are okay. I feel that gnawing feel of hunger at my stomach again, and I know if I’m hungry my young are probably much hungrier.
I set out to see if I can get some dino nuggets for me and my hatchlings. I walk down the game trail in which, without fail I usually can my prey, dinosaurs such as the Ankylosaurus, basically a giant spiky turtle with a giant club on its tail. Also, the Triceratops, which is basically a huge rhino with two other huge horns protruding from right above its eyes. It also has a large crest on the front of its neck. And the Edmontosaurus, a giant horse which can stand on two legs. If you aren’t clear on what the look like, look them up on the future’s invention: Google.
Well, back to the hunt. I continued walking along the trail, until I saw a slight depression in the dirt a bit forwards. I walked towards the depression to see what it was. It was an Edmontosaurus track! I excitedly followed the track, knowing I’ll have food soon.
I saw an Edmontosaurus up in a small clearing ahead. I stepped on the tips of my toes, not wanting to alert my unfortunate prey. I stopped approaching at around twenty feet away from it. I studied the Edmontosaurus. It was pretty small for an Edmontosaurus, which are usually around 10 ft tall at the hips, but this one was smaller. Most likely an adolescent female around 6 ft at the hip. It wa- Nevermind! Time’s wasting!
After thinking about how I would attack for a couple seconds, I knew what I’d do. I’d lunge for its neck. I got ready to run when it turned around! It bellowed out in terror and began running, probably to the rest of its herd where there was surely a more dangerous dinosaur. Not gonna happen!
I got ready to run, but it turned back towards me, giving out a small squeak and widening its eyes as it looked directly at me. I rushed towards it at around fifteen miles an hour, my thick coat of feathers brushing against the tree to the side of me. The Edmontosaurus booked it, sprinting away from me. I gained distance quickly as it rushed into an opening.
I was only a couple yards away then BOOM!!! An adult bull Edmontosaurus rammed into my chest with its head, stunning me and knocking me back. If I was in a Jurassic Park movie I would’ve made a loud terrifying roar, but I’m not gonna, that's just stupid. It ran at me again, but I sidestepped, ramming my head into its side. It slowed down, but after considering its odds it booked it and ran away. Sadly another unsuccessful hunt.
