Hello, everyone! I am Ava Minall, and I was a new character named Mrs. Corry in our school play! You are about to witness the amazing world of theater through our show, Mary Poppins Jr.!
This theater experience has shown me lessons of hard work and the fantastic payoff, and I think my fellow cast and crew members can say the same. Don’t think theater is a walk in the park for any of us-TONS of effort was put into the production. But it is so great to realize all the work you have done paid off in the end. And reflecting on your play experience shows you how you actually made it from not knowing a single line to being able to say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards with ease.
Another great thing about the theater is that you can have your own take on the vibe of your character, and that your style can be incorporated or weaved into your character’s personality. And for Ensemble, that experience of giving traits to your character is even better-you can literally make up a character and not just put a dash of your own take on it, but make up EVERYTHING about the character. Isn’t that neat?
And finally, a fantastic thing about theater is that, even though you put an insane amount of adrenaline into the show, you would never want to be anywhere else in the world at the moment you hear your thundering applause at bows. As you are on that stage, at least for me anyway, the thrill of being on the stage is incredible. Trust me: if you have a passion for theater or want to try something new, JOIN THE PLAY!! You will be amazed at what can come together in a matter of months!
An enormous shoutout to Ms. Rad, the director, Ms. Nicole, the choreographer, Mr. Ryan, head of the stage crew, and other parent and teacher volunteers!
