Pi Day, a celebration of the number 3.14159265… On March 14 Pi Day was celebrated at WIS after school in the cafeteria. The cost of admission was $3 during lunch and $4 at the door. When you came to the event, you received tickets for use at many of the stations.
Some of the stations were free and could get you some more tickets. The tickets were primarily used for raffling off prizes, the opportunity to pie your favorite teachers, or get pied yourself. You could also use them to buy things such as cookies, bagels, or chips. One student bought all of the cookies!
There were many fun activities such as a pie walk. Like musical chairs, but you had to stand on a number and if they called your number, you win a pie, plain and simple. You could also enter a maze where you could only turn right. However, one student found the proper way easily so he lead many other students through the maze, earning them all free tickets. Our own associate Marc Rossin won one of the prizes.
Lastly, all the students went over to the gym to watch the Pie’ing and Pizza Eating Contest. All the students were in the bleachers while the winners of the raffle stood with the pies. The “pies” were whipped cream on a paper plate. It was difficult to throw the “pies” so some teachers got off scot-free! Some students also had the chance to get pied!
For the pizza eating contest Mrs. Creighton and Mr. Santomenna, each teamed up with two eighth graders. “My favorite part was the Pizza Eating Contest, but it was too short,” says Noah M.
Pi Day was a huge success. Special thanks to Ms. Dickson, the teacher volunteers, and student helpers who helped make Pi Day possible!
