Weekly Art Projects

Art Journal Cover

Students created artistic covers for their art journals for our Scientific Illustration Class.

"My Bloody Valentine"

Students studied frog and amphibian blood and cardiac muscle under the microscope, as well as a real-life cow and sheep heart. They were tasked with creating an Emo-style heart-based tattoo OR a Valentine Card. 

Geometric Snowflakes

Students studied the geometry behind snowflakes by hyper-focusing on one singular snowflake OR illustrating a snow-weather event.

Cosmic Constellations

Students studied the difference between astronomy and astrology by creating a space-themed background, equipped with their Zodiac signs' personality traits and constellation in the stars.

Fish Art Contest 

(mailed in by 3/22 for consideration)

Students completed a wild fish art contest and may enter it into the Wildlife Forever national art competition.

Analogous Arthropods

Students studied various terrestrial, aquatic, and air arthropod species in resin and under the microscope. They chose to focus on one species to illustrate, or a specific body part that allowed them to adapt to their environment and create a design-piece.

VA Native Wildflower 

Art Contest (optional)

Students completed a Virginia wildflower art contest that may be entered into the Shenandoah National Park's state-wide art competition.

The Scattering Sun

Students studied the effects of different wavelengths of visible light in a landscape or seascape.

Anatomy of a Human Face

Students will create a unique self-portrait in Canva and use their knowledge of the anatomy of a human face to make their own fine-art portrait.

In the Deep

Students will use their knowledge of a crayfish dissection and sea create slides to illustrate a creepy mythological or extinct creature OR a current, unique sea creature.

Life Drawings: Leesburg Animal Park

On Monday, April 29th students will travel to the Leesburg Animal Park to draw real-life animals in motion and their natural(ish) habitat.

Cloud & Water Study

Students will track the weather for the week, paint the types of clouds in their cloud journal, and illustrate a single water drop or a water-related weather event.
