Year 10 Wood Technology
Year 10 Wood Technology
The Year 10 programme of Wood Technology continues to build on the knowledge and practical skills touched on in Year 9. The focus is on personal focused projects that have skills and knowledge that will challenge the student.
The course content has a major focus on safety related topics. This is incorporated into all student designed and produced projects. This option subject offers many challenges to those who have a genuine interest in the Wood Technology area.
Other course related content will be:
Hand tools
Wood turning
Band saw
Scroll saw
Wood joining techniques
Finishing of projects.
This course leads to NZQA Level 1 BCATS program. The production of various projects will cover the required skills necessary for any basic wood project in building and construction. The essence of the skills gained can lead to various project designs using the Technology Curriculum.
Students are able to personally design and construct individualised projects by utilising a wide range of skills and expertise. Students will then apply the workshop skills such as measure, mark, cut and finish materials thus enabling them to assemble to production standards their work pieces.
Further on from BCITO Level 1 and 2 is the BCATS Level 3 standards. Also many of the students who undertake these courses go on to the Build a House which is situated on the WHS grounds
